Halale Umuzi — MATOBO
The Flagship of The Umuzi Collection
Halale Homestead is the first chapter in The Umuzi Collection—a national network of heritage homesteads celebrating the many peoples of Zimbabwe.
Set among the ancient granite hills of Matobo, Halale is more than a boutique lodge. It is a place where hospitality, heritage and Ubuntu come together to create meaningful encounters between people.
Visitors are invited to experience Zimbabwe through its landscapes, stories, traditions and, above all, its people. Through the Living Museum, cultural experiences and conversations around the fire, Halale introduces the idea that understanding another person's story is one of the foundations of a stronger nation.
Matobo was chosen because it is where many chapters of Zimbabwe's history meet—from ancient geology and San rock art to sacred traditions, the Ndebele Kingdom and modern Zimbabwe.
Halale is not intended to tell every Zimbabwean story.
It is the beginning of a journey that continues across the country through The Umuzi Collection.

Fura Umuzi— MASHONALAND
Celebrating the Heritage of the Mutapa State
Fura Homestead is one of the future destinations within The Umuzi Collection, celebrating the history, traditions and enduring legacy of the peoples of northern Zimbabwe and the great Mutapa civilisation.
Located within Mashonaland, Fura will invite visitors to experience the rich heritage of the region through authentic hospitality, storytelling, traditional knowledge and everyday community life.
Like every Umuzi, Fura is not simply a place to visit.
It is a place to understand.
Together with Halale and future Umuzi across Zimbabwe, it forms part of a national vision to celebrate the unique contribution of every community while strengthening appreciation of the values that unite us all.

Inspired by the philosophy of Ubuntu, Halale has been designed as a place where visitors, communities and culture come together through meaningful human encounters.

The architecture reflects the traditions of the Matobo region.
The Living Museum introduces visitors to Zimbabwe's layered history.

FOUNDER’S MESSAGE
A Note from the Founder
Zimbabwe is a remarkable country.
It is a land of ancient granite hills, extraordinary wildlife, resilient people and many cultures whose stories together have shaped one nation.
Yet I have often felt that we know too little about one another.
Many of us grow up understanding the history of our own community but have few opportunities to experience the traditions, values and everyday lives of our neighbours. I believe that when we truly encounter one another—with curiosity, respect and hospitality—we begin to see not only their beauty, but our own.
That belief became the foundation of The Umuzi Collection.
What began as a dream to create a heritage homestead in Matobo has grown into a vision for a national collection of living heritage destinations across Zimbabwe, each celebrating the unique identity of its own community while contributing to a greater national story.
This is not simply about preserving the past.
It is about shaping the future.
I believe that well-designed, respectful and repeated human encounters create understanding.
Understanding builds respect.
Respect builds trust.
Trust makes cooperation easier.
Cooperation creates opportunity.
And stronger communities become one of the foundations of a stronger nation.
That is why The Umuzi Collection exists.
Not simply to welcome visitors.

My hope is that every Zimbabwean child will grow up knowing not only the story of their own people, but also the stories of their neighbours.
That every visitor will leave with a deeper understanding of Zimbabwe.
And that every community will benefit from sharing the heritage it has protected for generations.
